JLMN Presents Covenant House NJ Response to Trafficking Survivors
The Junior League of Montclair-Newark is proud to present a panel discussion with one of the leading anti-human trafficking agencies in New Jersey- Covenant House New Jersey.
Human trafficking is colloquially called “modern-day slavery,” and affects people from all demographics.
As of December 2019, over 247 cases of human trafficking were reported in New Jersey. Sadly, over 1,498 cases of human trafficking have been reported since 2008. Youth, including those under the age of 18 years and young adults (up to age 26 years), are particularly at risk for trafficking in the United States. The risk for homeless youth is even greater.
Identifying trafficking victims is a challenging process due to many factors, including the extreme trauma victims face. But identifying and providing services to victims as soon as possible is critical to begin the healing process for the inhuman terror the victims have endured. Covenant House New Jersey has not only recognized this modern-day tragedy, but also the urgent need to respond, support and protect these young people.
In a truly dynamic show of love and compassion, Covenant House New Jersey worked tirelessly to create both evidence-based approaches and groundbreaking research around victim identification and survivor support that is now recognized as a best practice in anti-human trafficking work in NJ and beyond.

Our Panel will include:
Rolidel Hormazabal — Program Director for the NJ Enhanced Statewide Human Trafficking Victim Services. Ms. Hormazabal, a licensed social worker, supervises both Outreach and Youth Coordinated Entry and is the Director of Programs and Compliance for Covenant House.
Julia Einbond — Director of Strategy and Learning at Covenant House New Jersey. Ms. Einbond has worked as a consultant for various United Nations agencies and international NGOs conducting evaluations on programs on a range of topics. Ms. Einbond’s research on human trafficking led to the creation of the first scientifically validated brief screening tool for human trafficking.
Alison M. Iannarone — Clinical Supervisor at Covenant House New Jersey. Ms. Iannarone collected and contributed data to Covenant House New Jersey’s Recognizing Human Trafficking Among Homeless Youth study and co-authored a chapter on Labor Trafficking.
